Location: Brookline, MA

Scope: Renovations and additions to two existing 2 and 3 story buildings (Firehouse and Police Station).  The total area of the finished project is 48,000 sq. ft.  Work included site utilities and site improvements within the project site.

“The project involved the gut renovation of a fire station built in 1870 and the adjacent police headquarters built in 1960. We constructed a steel frame addition between the two buildings and added a third floor to create an enlarged combined facility.

The design provided for a complete reorganization and a 50% expansion of both facilities to achieve a total of 50,000 square feet.

Located in the center of town across from Town Hall, it’s a great location for it purpose, but a tricky one for construction. It was also time critical because the police and fire department were temporarily relocated to another Brookline-owned property that was also scheduled for renovation.

One goal of this project was to restore the exterior façade of the historic fire station which involved replication of precast balustrades, brick restoration, custom radius window replacements and millwork to replicate the original fire station doors.

This facility contains the fire department’s alarm vault tied into all the central alarms in Brookline and is the main communication center for the police and fire departments.

This project was a success because everyone knew their respective roles and did their part to keep the project moving. That’s what teamwork is all about.”
